Kelp existed 25 million years ago... And it exists now... How cool is that? Kelp is used in cooking in China and Japan to flavor snacks, salads, and even is cooked in beans (because it reduces the farting associated with eating beans!) Kelp decays slowly and it can produce ethanol and methane, both which are important energy gases. Some scientists are studying kelp as a renewable energy option!
